Welcome back. Things have been pretty slow around Sequential HQ for the last little while but we will hopefully have more news and reviews for you about Canadian comics now that Summer is giving way to the busy Fall publishing season.
Case in point:
Item! Toronto cartoonist and editor Ginnette Lapalme is facing a hefty vet bill and is selling art to pay for it.
Item! A short report about the Eden Mills Writers Festival event 2 weeks ago in Guelph that featured Scott Chantler and Evan Munday readings.
Item! The first photo I’ve seen of the newly launched Little Island Comics shop, courtesy of Matt Demers.
Item! Kevin Boyd at the Shuster Awards catches the Fall comics and graphic novel offerings from Kids Can Press, including new books by Claudia Davila and the afore-mentioned Scott Chantler.
Item! A super-long post about reading Cerebus (part one of a series) by Tim O’Neil.
Item! Everyone who’s interested in the comics business should read Dustin Harbin’s 15 Thoughts on Digital Comics.
Item! Derik Badman reviews four books from the Quebec Colosse imprint by Jimmy Beaulieu, David Turgeon, Vincent Giard, Sebastien Trahan, and more.
Item! Dan Clowes and Seth are sharing a booklaunch in Montreal on October 19.
Item! Lastly, a few older posts from last week’s Fan Expo that I had in my inbox: Danielle D’Ornellas of BlogTO had a best and worst post up with photos, and Alexa Tomaszewski gets the Matt Fraction quotes. One of the Fan Expo organizers, Kevin Boyd, has some preliminary afterthoughts and shout-outs at the Joe Shuster Awards blog. And finally, the Ottawa horror blogger “Sonsey” has some criticisms of the show.
