Item! Only 18 more shopping days until Beethoven’s birthday!
Item! Last night was the fundraising auction for Toronto Draws Tintin at the Steamwhistle Gallery Space. This article has some Peter Birkemoe quotes. By all accounts a great success, the event also featured the launch of D+Q’s newly translated comic book biography of Tintin creator Herge. The book’s artist Stanislas was on hand for the launch, as you can see here.
Item! The Toronto Star’s Andrew Chung profiles Michel Rabagliati on the occasion of the French-language publication of the latest Paul book, Paul au Parc: “He has become much more popular than Asterix, than any American superhero.”
Item! A long-rumoured book about Dave Sim’s romantic relationship with the former Executive Director of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, Susan Alston, titled Dave Sim’s Last Girlfriend, is finally scheduled to be published by Simon and Shuster in August 2012. According to the publisher, the book contains “direct reproductions of the faxes and letters exchanged between Dave and his last and final girlfriend. From the sweet, tender moments to the painful throes of breaking up, these unfiltered, unedited letters will give you a seat on the roller coaster this couple rode right off the tracks.”
Item! This past weekend was also the Montreal Expozine: the big bilingual alternative press and comics fair. Reports like this one stress the positive aspects of an event celebrating print in general, while others focused more on comics.
