Item! Happy Valentine’s Day! I’d just like to remind everyone of two Jack Kirby-related items here. First, the Fantagraphics collection of Simon and Kirby’s romance comics is now in stores and would make a perfect Valentine’s gift for a comics fan, maybe. Wonderful restoration by Canadian cartoonist Michel Gagné. Second, the petition asking Marvel to give Kirby and his family credit and compensation for the characters and stories he created, including the basic plot and most of the characters in the upcoming Avengers movie, is still going strong at change.org. just a few more signatures needed to reach 1000 names. Maybe you could be the 1000th hero to sign it?
Item! Cartoonists Brandon Graham and James Stokoe are selling original art to benefit Gary Friedrich, the creator of Ghost Rider who is being sued by Marvel for $17,000.
Item! Not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but the latest issue of the arts and literary magazine Carousel (#28) features a selection of comics by Jesse Jacobs, Ethan Rilly, Michael DeForge, Tin Can Forest, and more.
Item! D+Q wraps up the translation of Guy Delisle’s Angouleme diary. Day 3. Day 4. Funny.
Item! The fourth volume of Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth has made a strong showing on the new York Times Bestseller List.
Item! At the T-Dot Comics site, Alice Quinn’s Quinntessential Comics podcast visits the Toronto Cartoonist Workshop.
Item! Check out the poster for the upcoming Kazoo Fest Zine and Comics Expo (it’s in my hometown)!
