Award-winning designer Jacob Covey recently shared on social media this in-process cover for an upcoming volume collecting George Metzger’s Beyond Time and Again, a long-out-of-print sci-fi epic by the Underground cartoonist. The book is due later this year from Fantagraphic’s boutique “F.U.” imprint dedicated to reprinting pioneering and otherwise obscure UG work. It was part of the initial slate of four announced books that Fanta touted in their initial launch of the line in 2014, which also included Jonah Kinigstein’s The Emperor’s New Clothes and Jason Karns’ Fukitor. Metzger (born 1939) has a legacy as both a born-and-bred U.S. UG cartoonist but also contributed mightily to the Canadian UG scene.
