Fan Expo Canada takes place this weekend in Toronto. The four-day show includes a number of comics-focused events and some big-name guests, including Todd McFarlane, Blacksad co-creator Juanjo Guarnido, Jeff Lemire, Gail Simone, Sweeney Boo, Ed Brisson, Scott Chantler, Jason Loo, Neal Adams, Michael Cho, Michael T. Gilbert, Hope Nicholson, Steve Manale, and many more.
My favourite Canadian-centric panel is Friday’s “Margaret Atwood meets Mr. Monster: The Forgotten Comics of WWII and Their Impact Today (Margaret Atwood not included)” feauring Ivan Kocmarek, Ken Steacy, Michael T. Gilbert, and Walter Durajlija.
The other old man panel that appeals to me is “Founding the Marvel Universe: A Tribute to Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko” on Saturday, featuring Michael T. Gilbert, Klaus Janson, Joe Rubinstein, Ty Templeton, and moderator Blake Bell.
There are also a crazy number of non-comics celebrity guests and the usual comic con stuff happening.
