The Festival de la BD Francophone de Québec has announced the finalists for its comics prize, the Bédéis Causa, designed to recognize achievements in comics from that province. The festival takes place April 13-17, with the award winners announced at a ceremony at the Museum of Civilisation in Quebec City on Saturday, April 16.
Traditionally made up of six awards, this year the Festival is adding a new prize in honour of Jacques Hurtubise, the founder of Croc Magazine who died late last year. The new prize is intended to promote new work by emerging authors and comes with a $1000 “scholarship” to be used in self-publishing. Submissions for the new prize are due April 1.
