Stepping into the gap created when Annie Koyama announced her impending scaling back of Koyama Press activity, cartoonist Mark Laliberte has announced he is starting up a new Canadian publishing imprint for comics dubbed PopNoir Editions. Laliberte is a Toronto-based artist, graphic designer and publisher who makes his own art comics and curates the 4Panel series of comic strips for Carousel Magazine. He has previously published two 4Panel anthologies featuring the work of avant-garde cartoonists, and says his new press will be “focused on graphic novels.”
Laliberte has announced the first two titles from PopNoir, set to debut this May at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. Ghost Water Kiss is a collection of short comics stories by Ottawa’s Jessica Bromley Bartram. Apologetica is a new collection of comics by Toronto’s Ben O’Neil.
