The Doug Wright Awards for Canadian Cartooning are now accepting submissions for their 2020 awards. This year there are several changes to the Wrights, including a brand-new online submission form (new this year is a $15 submission fee for non-indy/self-published books) and the addition of a new award for Best Kids’ Book category for comics aimed at children ages 0–12. The award will be called “The Egghead”, named for Doug Wright’s preferred name for his Nipper character.

According to Conan Tobias, the new Executive Director of the Awards, other changes to the Wrights include:

  • The Nipper once again becomes an award for best emerging talent
  • The Pigskin Peters will now exclusively recognize small and micro-press publications

Any English-language comics produced in 2019 by Canadians are eligible. The Doug Wright Awards will be presented during the weekend of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in May of 2020.
