For your weekend listening and viewing pleasure:
1. Joe Sacco is interviewed on the iNKSTUDS podcast. As host Robin McConnell notes: “I don’t think Inkstuds listeners really need to be told much about Joe Sacco. His work in regards to Palestine and the Bosnian War have both been revealingly informative and touchstones in Comics Journalism. Joe and I discussed his latest book, Footnotes in Gaza in advance of his trip to Toronto next week for a talk at the University of Toronto. If you are in town, go check it out and don’t miss out on a unique chance to see him in person.
As well, Fantagraphics just released a special edition of Safe Area Gorazde.”
2. Seth is featured on TV Ontario’s Big Ideas: If your tastes in literature are more or less limited to books filled with nothing but print, you might not be familiar with Seth. It’s a nom de plume of a Canadian cartoonist and comic book writer whose real name is Gregory Gallant. He is the author of graphic novel “It’s a Good Life, If You Don’t Weaken.” Seth’s novel is the subject of Nick Mount’s lecture on BIG IDEAS. It is part of a series of lectures on modernist literature. BIG IDEAS airs on TVO every Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 pm.
Bonus: Seth reviews the new Ben Katchor graphic novel, The Cardboard Valise, for the Globe and Mail. He also does a panel by panel breakdown.
An easy way to find the other lectures is to subscribe to our podcast fed on iTunes .
Coincidentally, Maclean’s has published this week an appreciation of Nick Mount’s teaching. .
