Happy Holidays to all our readers!
To celebrate the season, here are two classic strips by Canadian cartoonist Walter Ball. Ball’s Rural Route was the best-known feature in the Star Weekly after Jimmy Frise’s Birdseye Centre departed for the Montreal Standard. The strip ran from 1956 to 1968, and rivaled Doug Wright’s Family for popularity and circulation. Ball’s comic, about the pedestrian experiences of a country family, was usually printed in black-and-white or two-tone, but was done up in technicolor for Christmas.
